Modular Technology... It's About Time!
About Us
Ed Smith always had an interest in the design, engineering and construction of homes - ever since he was a kid drawing up floor plans at his parent's kitchen table. As a youngster, watching This Old House with his dad on Saturday mornings was always a special way to start the weekend.
In 1997, Ed's passion for construction brought him to the modular home industry when he and his wife were looking to build a new home. It was through this process that Ed fell in love with modular building and realized a lifelong dream.
Two years later, Ed started Artisan Fine Homes specializing in architecturally designed, custom modular homes. After a few years in business, Chris (Ed's older brother) joined Ed as a full partner. It was a natural fit and perfect addition as Chris brought a 20 year background in commercial construction development.
Since then, the company has been recognized and honored consistently with annual awards from their manufacturers.
Artisan Fine Homes is proud of surpassing the 100 home mark in 2009 and looks forward to fulfilling the dreams of their customers, one at a time, long into the future.

The Modular Method
What does modular mean?
Modular is a systems method of building. Homes are built in modules or units inside of a climate controlled production facility. Building indoors eliminates weather related delays, the risk of mold and mildew and enhances economies of scale.
The manufacturing process allows for a superior built home with inherent green qualities in a fraction of the time compared to traditional site-built homes.
The modular building method allows for architecturally designed homes, contrary to the belief that modular homes are all boxy and square. We work with recognized and respected architectural firms including Russell Versaci Architecture, Studio Z Design Concepts and William Haryslak & Associates.
Modular home building is changing the home building industry and quickly becoming the preferred building method of the future.
Green Building
Modular construction is green by nature as the home's modules are built inside a climate controlled production facility. The materials are protected from the weather, eliminating the risk of moisture and mold. Building indoors also allows for a tighter building envelope with precision building techniques and reduced site impact.
What does this mean for you, the homebuyer?
A stronger, better built, quieter, energy efficient home with reduced operating costs and improved health benefits like better air quality.
Our modular construction partners have a successful track record in green and sustainable homebuilding.
Together, we can provide recommendations and rate your home to recognized green building programs including Energy Star, LEED for Homes and NAHB Green Builder Program, as well as other certification programs.

Testimonials
"When we first decided to retire to the beach, we looked into remodeling our family's 50-year-old cottage. Because of town regulations, it soon became clear that this option was not viable, and we began to look into alternative choices. We extensively researched all options and became extremely interested in a method of building new to us... modular construction. After extensive study into the modular construction system and interviews with current and previous customers, we decided to build our dream home with Artisan Fine Homes. The experience was amazing; Chris Smith and Artisan professionals carefully oversaw every step. The planning was thorough, the construction was meticulous, and the calendar of completion was nothing less than miraculous. All requirements exceeded codes and the final product exceeded expectations. We highly recommend building your house with Artisan Fine Homes and making your dreams come true."

"With two young children, we were anxious to find a builder that could accommodate a compressed building schedule, as well as our budget. Our experience with Artisan Fine Homes was fantastic - from working with us on conceptualizing the plans for our home, to overseeing every detail during the construction and at the final walk-through. Chris Smith and all of his team were consistently professional, and we really viewed them as our partners in the construction of our home, as they were invested in the outcome. We are thrilled with our house and would, and do, highly recommend Artisan Fine Homes."

"We needed to rebuild our shore home to accomodate our growing family. After shopping, we settled on a modular home which we found to be the most cost effective solution. We chose Artisan Fine Homes, and builders Ed and Chris Smith. We were able to customize our new home design. The build, start to finish,
took two months! The quality of the home is excellent. Chris and Ed supported us every step of the way.
We highly recommend Artisan Fine Homes."
